“Government reduces the AFRMM (Merchant Marine) rate, calculated on the value of international maritime freight from 25% to 8%.”
The federal government published in today's DOU (03/25/2022), the new wording given to art. 6 of Law No. 10,893, which establishes the new rates for calculating the AFRMM.
According to Law 14,301, the new rates are as follows:
• 8% (eight percent) in long-haul navigation;
• 8% (eight percent) in cabotage navigation;
• 40% (forty percent) in river and lake navigation, when transporting liquid bulk in the North and Northeast regions;
• 8% (eight percent) in river and lake navigation, when transporting solid bulk and other cargo in the North and Northeast regions.
We clarify that the original text of Law 14,301 was published with a veto to these provisions, in the extra edition of the DOU of 01/07/2022.
